What foundation work does.
Foundation work builds the box spring or platform base a mattress sits on: assembling the wood or steel frame, attaching the decking, and covering and closing the foundation with fabric. It is a parallel line to the mattress itself, sharing sewing and covering techniques but working with a rigid frame instead of a soft assembly, and it finishes the two piece set a retailer sells together.
The equipment covers frame assembly and fastening stations, decking attachment, and foundation covering and closing machines that wrap and sew the fabric over the frame. Some plants automate the covering and border close on foundations much as they do on mattresses; others assemble frames by hand and automate only the sewing. Machines differ by frame material, foundation height, and how much of the wrap and close they automate.
